Commercial Type, in collaboration with Susana Carvalho and Kai Bernau at Atelier Carvalho Bernau, have designed a new corporate typeface for reinsurance giants Munich Re. The designers at Munich Re requested a clean and respectable new typeface, and admantly wanted to avoid the late-2000s trends in corporate design: overly friendly forms, distinctive characters that are weird for the sake of being weird, and above all else, rounded corners. Instead, they wanted to retain their 20th century Grotesk roots in a new typeface with narrower proportions and less squareness overall. Our final result is a European Grotesk with American Gothic proportions and contrast. See samples and additional information at Atelier Carvalho Bernau.
This typeface family is only available to users within Munich Re and its worldwide affiliates and partners, and may be licensed only with written permission from Munich Re.
